What is WebViewer Server?

WebViewer Server is the Apryse SDK and custom Java code built in Apache Tomcat to allow server requests to the Apryse SDK. The WebViewer Server was designed to work together with the WebViewer client to give an ideal document experience.

Should I use WebViewer Server with the WebViewer Client?

Benefits of moving to WebViewer Server:

  • Offloads client side work server side, allowing for very large documents to be easily processed in weaker clients such as mobile or older browsers
  • Faster initial renders and times to first page in WebViewer
  • Use the PDF rendering capabilities of Apryse without WebViewer
  • Avoids spending development time implementing the Apryse SDK in your custom server, and offers a high performance usage of the Apryse SDK

Downsides of moving to WebViewer Server:

  • Added complexity with WebViewer and WebViewer Server interactions
  • Increases implementation time when moving from a client side model
  • Adds the requirement of managing server infrastructure

What is WebViewer Server built with Docker?

WebViewer Server uses a Linux Docker container built on Debian 9. A container is similar to a virtual machine, but allows for a more fluid experience with a smaller performance hit. This container comes preconfigured with the required dependencies and options for it to work directly from the download.

What is the WebViewer Server Windows Installer?

An installer built for Windows which integrates the various WebViewer Server parts, similar to how our container handles WebViewer Server. This was made for users who cannot use Docker in their environments. See more information at WebViewer Server Windows Installer guide.
